Abstract Scope |
This study demonstrates the superior performance of the method combining the induction heater and cooling system with laser direct energy deposition to fabricate Inconel 718 single crystal deposits. In conventional L-DED, it is difficult to fabricate deposits with the single crystal texture because it is challenging to control solidification parameters such as temperature gradient and solidification rate. On the other hand, by using L-DED integrated with the induction heater and cooling system, it is possible to control the solidification parameters to fabricate deposits with the desired texture. In order to confirm that the solidification parameters were controlled through the induction heater and cooling system during the deposition process, the non-contact temperature sensors were used. The texture analyses were performed to compare the texture of deposits with and without the application of the induction heater and cooling system. Furthermore, the correlation between texture and mechanical properties was also investigated. |
