Abstract Scope |
Gas turbine blades are critical components, exposed to high temperatures and stresses during their service life. When they reach their serviceable limit, their replacement has an important impact in terms of cost and sustainability. However, the application of a rejuvenation heat treatment cycle, customized for the specific material, could extend their service life. In the framework of the last generation gas turbine, a particular focus is on the life extension of René N4 components. The aim is to develop a rejuvenation cycle capable to restore the original microstructure while keeping under control the recrystallization phenomenon. This work describes the exploration and then the optimization of such rejuvenation heat treatment. The first experimental campaign led to the definition of a suitable temperature window for the solutioning step. The second DOE had the aim to fine tune the rejuvenation cycle and perform a microstructure characterization after heat treatment application. |
