High Entropy Materials and high entropy alloys in particular (e.g. HEAs, CCAs, MPEAs) have sparked new interest in metallurgy and precipitated something of a renaissance in alloy design, characterization at the atomic level as well as short and long-range elemental ordering. Since 2013, high entropy alloys (HEAs) have continued to receive increasing attention and investment throughout NSF. While high entropy alloys represent a fundamental shift in alloying strategy, and a renewed view toward property optimization, significant fundamental science remains before the performance of established material systems can be exceeded. In this talk, a few examples of recent high entropy materials research funded by the Division of Materials Research will be shown, and a few funding mechanisms used to facilitate these efforts will be highlighted. |
