Abstract Scope |
Enhancing wear resistance is crucial for prolonging the lifespan of industrial parts, typically achieved by increasing hardness. However, this often results in loss of toughness, compromising the applicability of such alloys. Therefore, exploring alternative methods for improving wear resistance is of significant importance. This study investigates the influence of texture on the wear resistance of Cu alloys, in different straining scenarios. Through macroscopic wear tests, we observed significant variations in wear properties, including wear rates and friction coefficients, as a function of strain path and texture. Follow-up in-situ micro-mechanical scratch tests using a pico-indenter, as well as post-mortem microstructure characterization using SEM-based techniques provided fundamental insights into these phenomena. Our results altogether demonstrate that both grain orientation and scratch direction markedly affect wear properties in Cu alloys. |
