Abstract Scope |
A single-crystal structure of pure Ni was grown using a flat-top laser beam via laser powder bed fusion (LPBF), by adopting bidirectional scanning with XY–90-degree rotation. Herein, the role of hatch direction on the formation of single-crystal-structure in pure Ni was investigated. Cylindrical specimens with 12 mm in diameter and 30 mm in height were fabricated on the polycrystalline stainless-steel substrate. The XY–180-degree hatch rotation promoted the epitaxial <001> growth along the build direction. Meanwhile, the XY–90-degree hatch rotation induced the epitaxial growth of <001> face-centered cubic structure on the hatch direction (HD)–scan direction (SD) plane, deviating by approximately 45 degree relative to the SD. This resulted in the configurations of <011>║SD and HD, making XY–90-degree hatch rotation a crucial factor in fabricating the single-crystal structure. The texture transition induced by a change in hatch rotation from 90 degree to 180 degree during the fabrication process was also discussed. |
