Abstract Scope |
The forming of sheets into automotive closure panels requires the uniform, uninterrupted flow of metal through complex strain rate paths before reaching a limit strain like necking. The sensitivity of the flow stress to the strain rate path can delay necking and is undermined by the evolution of the dislocation structure and its atomistic controls, the latter which is the basis of alloy design. This work describes the constitutive deformation behaviour of an Al-Mg-Si T4 alloy and elucidates the different measures of the strain rate sensitivity important to understanding metal plasticity for automotive sheet forming. |
