Abstract Scope |
Development of new TiAl alloys for high-temperature applications is introduced in this study. At KIMS, we have successfully developed new TiAl alloys that exhibit excellent properties at both room temperature and high temperatures. Particularly noteworthy is the alloy's exceptional oxidation resistance in the temperature range of 900 to 1000°C, achieved through the formation of a stable Al2O3 oxidation layer. The process development on the newly developed KIMS alloys is presented. Notably, we investigated the changes in microstructure and mechanical properties, such as tensile strength and creep, of KIMS alloys based on different processes. The results from testing and validating TiAl blades indicate that KIMS alloy can effectively function as a turbine blade above 900°C. Furthermore, we propose underlying mechanisms explaining the high-temperature strength of KIMS alloy, based on microstructure observations. Finally, new TiAl alloy developed in this study can be applied as turbine blades in gas turbine engines. |
