Abstract Scope |
There is sufficient demand in the industry for such Ceramics Matrix Composite (CMC) models as are both computationally efficient as well as possessing a sound theoretical underpinning. Stress Intensity Factors (SIF) are useful for predicting the onset and propagation of cracks and identifying potential weak points in the design of CMCs. The main objective presently is to study the multiple crack-hole problem and quantify & predict the onset of cracks and their growth in terms of Stress Intensity Factors. It will be endeavored to develop a computer code to automate the computation of SIFs. Based on the work of Erdogan, Gupta & Ratwani (1973) and Binienda et al., (1992), this study intends to find a closed-form solution to the underlying singular integral equations, discretized using a suitable numerical method. The problem is also studied in FEM environment and similarities explored. |
