Abstract Scope |
Overlay coatings, specifically ceramic coatings find wide spread applicability in gas turbines. Oxidation and hot corrosion barrier coatings made are also used in various applications. Much of the early developments focused on natural gas fired turbines or jet fuels used in aerospace. With the recent interest in Hydrogen there is concern about enhanced moisture induced degradation of the coatings and their underlying substrates. Although the problem definition itself remains unresolved, coatings will clearly continue to play an important role in this transition. This presentation will cover capabilities and advances in coating materials and coating manufacturing technologies and will highlight the ability to use layered manufacturing to impart multifunctionality through novel materials and architectures. Extensions from turbines to reciprocating engines such as diesel or H2 modified reciprocating engines will also be discussed. |
