Abstract Scope |
As laser welding and brazing are widely used in automotive manufacturing, the quality inspection of these joints becomes increasingly important. Today human operators are still the major source to evaluate the laser weld and braze quality, which are subjective and labor-intensive, cannot meet high-volume production need. Due to the part surface reflectivity and discolorations, background lighting and various types of variations in laser weld and braze surface morphology, it poses a great challenge to the implementation of machine vision technology in laser weld quality check. This presentation shares our learnings in developing machine vision-based quality inspection systems for laser weld and braze. The systems contain automatic 3D weld data acquisition, data analysis algorithm and a clear graphic user interface for fast and accurate weld detection and evaluation according to industrial laser weld standards. |
