Abstract Scope |
Actinide elements are mainly known to the general public for their contribution to the short-term and long-term radiotoxicity of spent nuclear fuels and other radioactive wastes. However, a wide variety of critical applications rely on actinide materials. Deciphering actinide chemistry is paramount not only to nuclear waste management but also to our understanding and utilization of materials made from these rather exotic but nonetheless useful elements. This presentation will describe recent research efforts at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory’s Glenn T. Seaborg Institute focused on actinide sciences, from fundamental chemistry of heavy actinides to nuclear waste repository studies, nuclear forensics, hydrometallurgical separations, and f-element spectroscopy. |
