Abstract Scope |
The meta-crystal approach is to create lattice structures that mimic the crystalline microstructure such as polycrystals, phases and precipitates found in natural crystals. The approach enables the translation of the toughening mechanisms found in natural crystals to create a new class of metamaterials that not only are lightweight, strong and damage-tolerant, but also have highly programmable properties. This talk will be focused on both in-situ and ex-situ studying the toughness and crack propagation of meta-crystals and on programming the spatial deformation and subsequent crack propagation along specific paths. |
