Abstract Scope |
Significant effort has been put into designing shape-memory alloys that can survive many cycles without functional fatigue. Important to such efforts is the condition defining perfect interface compatibility between the austenite and martensite lattices (𝜆2=1). While meeting this condition has been shown to improve thermal cycling stability, the implications on stress-induced transformations are not as clear. In this study, we extend the traditional mathematical theories of martensite to characterize the interface compatibility under stress. Stress can influence the interface compatibility in significant ways, which we explore for several shape-memory alloys under uniaxial compressive stress states. |
