Abstract Scope |
Y-doped BaZrO3 is one of the promising materials for intermediate-temperature proton-conducting SOFCs. Its performance and processing depend on the stoichiometry and grain boundary segregation. This study analyzes the influence of small changes in the A/B ratio. Densification, grain size, chemical stability as well as the existence of stacking faults are found to dependent on the A/B ratio. In addition, the segregation behavior of different dopants at grain boundaries and the resulting changes in the ionic conductivity are investigated. BaZrO3 was doped with Y as well as combinations of Y + Sc, Y + Al and Y + Ti. Their segregation behavior was analyzed with S/TEM and EDS, while the conductivity was measured by EIS. By using ions with different ionic sizes and valencies, it is possible to evaluate the impact of these factors on segregation and optimize the composition for higher conductivity. |
