Abstract Scope |
Life cycle assessment (LCA) is used for sustainability evaluation in the energy generation and distribution industry. It can be applied to energy generation sites and storage, including fuel processing, and fuel extraction processes to quantify the net carbon emission from power production. The functional unit can be a unit of electricity (e.g. net kWh or MWh) sent out, as a final identifiable product within the specified boundary. In this paper, approaches in relation to various components of life cycle assessment (LCA) specified in International Standards (ISO 14044, 2006) were used in the context of selected hydrogen production technologies. Recommendations were made for various issues in LCA for selected electricity production technologies. |
