Abstract Scope |
Magnesium alloys are the lightest of all the commercially used structural metals. The magnesium structural parts are commonly made by casting processes, but it has a high chance to form internal defects due to the high reaction with oxides. The GMAW based Wire-Arc Additive Manufacturing (WAAM) process could be one of the fabrication methods for Mg parts. It has advantages that a less amount of material loss, a short-delivery time by the faster manufacturing speed, modifiability, and a chance to make a complex shaped or reinforced mold using dissimilar materials. But there are lack of the precedent researches regarding the WAAM of Mg alloys, though it has high potential and advantages. In this research, the additive manufacturability of the AZ-31 alloy has been discussed. Process parameters were optimized with varied solid wires, and different shielding conditions were evaluated. |
