Abstract Scope |
The aerospace industry has investigated using additive manufacturing to create functional bimetallic structures. This includes combining the conductive properties of GRCop-42 with the structural and oxidation resistant properties of In718. This talk presents the findings of the interface which forms between In718 and GRCop-42 using a laser powder bed fusion machine equipped with a Schaeffler Aerosint selective powder deposition recoater. Lack of fusion defects form when depositing In718 onto GRCop-42, which can be eliminated through an increase in laser power. Whereas deposition of GRCop-42 onto In718 results in remelting of the In718 and significant levels of Ni, Fe, and Cr flow into the deposited GRCop-42 region. This leads to the formation of new phases at the interface and a local change in grain morphology. These results highlight the importance of considering the deposition sequence during the design phase as it impacts both the integrity and microstructure of the interface. |
