Abstract Scope |
Dislocation / grain-boundary (GB) interactions represent a significant component of the overall material resistance to deformation in polycrystalline metals. However, the nature of the interaction has yet to be rigorously quantified. In particular, the relationships between grain boundary character and band nucleation, strain gradient formation and transmission require analysis in order to incorporate the mechanical behavior into suitable models. This study uses HREBSD and HRDIC to examine strain gradients, and related geometrically necessary dislocation content, in BCC tantalum, and FCC nickel alloys. The insights will be used to guide model development in crystal plasticity-based frameworks. |
