Abstract Scope |
Various ultra-high-strength steels (UHSSs) have been increasingly adopted in electric vehicles to meet the elevating safety needs for both passengers and batteries. Nevertheless, many cold-rolled UHSSs are multi-phase steels, which are born to have some local formability limitations, despite their balanced tensile elongation and strength. Accordingly, this work will start from explaining the damage mechanisms behind the local formability of the multi-phase UHSSs, and then suggest a few corresponding microstructure strategies to improve the local formability of the future UHSSs. A series of testing results will be presented to support these suggestions. Additionally, inspired by the actual forming conditions, the temperature and strain-rate effects on the local formability will also be overviewed. The ultimate objective of this work is to not only highlight the importance of the local formability but also provide the corresponding references for both the future UHSS development and new forming techniques. |
