Abstract Scope |
Recent developments have highlighted the focus on electric mobility and the long-term need for the sustained availability of electric vehicles and their batteries, which present significant challenges. The increased adoption of electric vehicles leads to the generation of large volumes of discarded batteries, while new batteries are needed for newly marketed vehicles. Given the limited natural availability of lithium, efficient battery recycling and closing the loop by securing access to end-of-life batteries is the only viable option. The initial step in this process is the collection of end-of-life batteries for recycling. This paper offers insights into the collection systems used in various countries and proposes a model for efficient and cost-effective collection systems tailored for developing nations, with an emphasis on the planning and initiatives in India. |
