Abstract Scope |
Lightweight high-entropy alloys (LHEAs) have the potential to substitute traditional lightweight materials because of their superior mechanical properties and thermal stability. For potential use in aerospace and transportation applications, the thermal degradation of LHEAs should be understood. Using multimodal characterization techniques, including differential scanning calorimetry/thermogravimetric analysis, scanning/transmission electron microscopy, and synchrotron X-ray diffraction/pair distribution function, we studied and chronicled the micro- and nano- structural changes in recently developed dual phase (FCC+HCP) LHEA–AlTi0.45CuZn. This talk will discuss the phase and grain size stability of AlTi0.45CuZn LHEA, the onset of phase decomposition, and the eventual evaporation of constituent element. |
