Abstract Scope |
In the construction industry there has been great emphasis on the search for more sustainable materials in recent years, mainly due to the great increase in concern about environmental degradation. This article studies the technical feasibility of producing soil-cement bricks with the addition of corn straw to evaluate its impacts on the mechanical characteristics of the brick. It is expected that the use of corn stover will have a beneficial effect on some properties of the block. As a result, an important objective of this work is to study the ideal straw addition content so that there is the best benefit for the properties of the brick in order to promote the use of more sustainable solutions in civil construction. The compressive strength results demonstrate the improvement in the property with the use of natural fibers. It is concluded that the use of corn straw fibers in soil-cement blocks is viable. |
