Abstract Scope |
This study examines the effectiveness of silica-rich green-graphene Analogues (SRGA) mixed epoxy coatings for carbon steel (CS) to improve corrosion resistance and other properties. The anti-corrosion performance of various concentrations (0.05 wt%, 0.1 wt%, and 0.5 wt% SRGA) of SRGA/EP composite coatings using the Tafel polarization and EIS technique in 3.5 wt% NaCl was evaluated. The research findings reveal that the 0.1 wt% SRGA/EP composite coated specimens have a 99% increase in corrosion resistance compared to uncoated specimens. Furthermore, the 0.1 wt% SRGA/EP composite coated specimens demonstrate a 5-7% improvement in thermal stability and a 67.8% decrease in average roughness (Ra) compared to uncoated CS specimens. Applying SRGA/EP composite coatings on CS pipes can enhance their thermal stability, hydrophobicity, and surface finish. SRGA derived from green processes can replace traditional toxic chemicals in the corrosion-resistant coating on water pipes, promoting environmental-social-governance (ESG) compliance in the paints and coatings industry.
