Abstract Scope |
The characterization of porosity is a key element of fatigue analysis of additive manufacturing (AM) components. Fractures originating from pores, in particular in high cycle regimes, determine the durability of a component and its usefulness in various industries such as aerospace and automotive. Through the characterization of porosity distributions using a non-homogenous poisson process and extreme value statistics, the distribution of porosity in samples with various geometric features can be obtained and subsequently used for simulation. The correlation between these benchmark artifacts and full-scale components is key for the design optimization for fatigue life and thus improvements on the outlook of AM in future applications. |
