Abstract Scope |
Scan strategies in Laser Powder Bed Fusion play a key role in as-built porosity, cracking, microstructure, surface morphology and cost. Achieving the right surface finish in particular requires longer scanning time hence affecting productivity. Scan strategies are investigated experimentally and numerically to identify their effect on surface finish. Different geometric features are analyzed using several scan trajectories to establish a broader understanding of the competing phenomena. The laser trajectory and status are captured using online process monitoring providing a digital twin that drives quick response physics-based models predicting the deposited surface characteristics. Numerical results are compared with micrographs verifying the modelling approach. Effort towards quantifying KPIs and correlating them with numerical predications is ongoing and will be presented. |
