Abstract Scope |
It is no secret that developing an MSR comes with many challenges. However, these challenges are also opportunities to develop a deeper knowledge of molten salt chemistry. This will not only bring reactor commissioning closer, but also further the field. At Seaborg Technologies, alongside developing our own actinide handling capabilities, we are collaborating with institutes around the globe who already have facilities for, and experience in, molten salt actinide chemistry. This is because understanding actinide chemistry is central to MSR development. For example, to qualify our fuel we must understand actinide solubility in our fuel salt, and mechanistic source term development requires an understanding of actinide vapour pressures and radiolysis, among many others. This talk will give an overview of the actinide research Seaborg Technologies is currently involved in and give an overview of selected challenges in actinide chemistry that need to be overcome in our development. |
