Abstract Scope |
We have been investigating heavy metal and high Z multifunctional halides and selenides for variety of electronic, optical and radiological applications due to large bandgap and low damage possibility for space applications. These materials have been used foracousto-optic, delay lines, high power MWIR and LWIR lasers, and radiation sensors. These materials have wide transparency in mid infrared wavelength (MWIR) and long infrared wavelength (LWIR) where oxides suffer due to large absorptions. We have developed and fabricated binary and ternary Hg, Tl, and Pb based binary and ternary crystals. Device quality crystals were grown by Physical vapor transport method and Bridgman growth method. We have used near-IR radiations to study mercurous chloride (Hg2Cl2), mercurous bromide (Hg2Br2), thallium gallium selenide (TlGaSe2) and thallium arsenic selenide (Tl3AsSe3) crystals at room temperature and at cryogenic temperatures. The performance of these materials and devices were not affected due to exposure of gamma-ray radiations. |
