Abstract Scope |
The development of advanced high performance magnesium alloy semi-finished products requires a comprehensive understanding of the relationship between process parameters, alloy composition, microstructure and the associated changes in properties. In this presentation, thermomechanical processes are discussed to demonstrate competitive properties in combination with knowledge-based alloy developmen. Previous research has shown that the addition of rare earths or calcium to magnesium causes textural weakening, which in turn can significantly improve room temperature formability. Based on selected examples, magnesium sheets with improved properties, in particular high formability at low temperatures and high strength, are proposed for the manufacture of structural components. In addition, a new strategy to utilize twin-roll casting technology for the development of sustainable magnesium alloys by advancing the development of secondary magnesium is presented. |
