Abstract Scope |
Zirconia is a widely popular ceramic material in the field of high temperature coatings. Traditionally Zirconia based coatings are deposited on superalloys using different thermal spray techniques to improve their high temperature properties. Poor coating density and inferior bonding between substrate and ceramic coating at the interface are the main reasons for the failure of these coating systems. Developing ceramic based coating systems using laser based Directed Energy Deposition (DED-LB) process improves both density and the bonding between the substrate and coating, thus enhances the high temperature performance. To achieve this, optimization of process parameters is crucial. The present study focusses on depositing Zirconia powder on Ni based alloy 718 substrate using DED-LB process. It aims to understand the influence and interaction of different process parameters such as laser power, scan speed and powder feed rate on the geometrical and microstructural characteristics of the final deposition. |
