| Abstract Scope |
Light metal composites have several advantages over their monolithic counterparts. In recent years, a novel group of composites have been developed that contain metallic glass as a reinforcement. The present talk discusses the synthesis and characterization of Al composites reinforced with a Ti-based metallic glass processed by mechanical alloying. Detailed TEM characterization of the composites and their mechanical properties will be presented. The mechanical properties of these composites displayed an abnormal deformation behavior (decreasing strength with increasing volume fraction of reinforcement). Possible reasons for this unusual behavior of these composites are presented. |
