Abstract Scope The addition of various solute elements is essential for the 7000 series high-strength aluminum alloy. However, this alloy causes coarse and uneven dendrites and segregation during conventional DC casting, which reduces product productivity and formability. In this study, we designed, manufactured, and developed an MD (Magneto Dynamic) electromagnetic control device that applies strong stirring and vibration to the aluminum alloy molten metal. Using this device, we developed a technology to change the coarse dendrite structure into equiaxed structure and make the grain size of the surface and center of the slab or billet fine and uniform. The manufactured billets and slabs are high-quality and have greatly improved productivity, which enables product competitiveness, and are expected to be applied to various fields such as 7000 series high-strength aluminum alloys for aerospace parts and general industrial parts.
