Abstract Scope |
Extreme processing often results in materials with a complex texture that isn’t intuitive in a single global orientation reference frame. For example in additively manufactured materials the natural reference frame may rotate to follow the thermal gradient. In highly deformed materials the reference frame may depend on local shear history. Correcting for local reference frame changes has historically been an intensive manual process requiring detailed knowledge of the processing history. A novel approach leveraging the local texture symmetry has been developed to automatically determine the local reference frame. This approach enables improved data interpretation and more robust microstructure quantification with examples shown for several |
