Abstract Scope |
This study aims at selectively recovering copper from the metal concentrate of waste printed circuit boards (WPCBs) via solvo-leaching. LIX 84-I diluted in kerosene, combined with a small volume of aqueous ammonia, has been used to leach copper from the metal concentrate of WPCBs. The effects of leaching parameters, including time, LIX 84-I concentration, amount of aqueous ammonia, temperature and pulp density were investigated to determine the optimum conditions. After optimization, the loaded organic phase is collected and is then subjected to stripping. The copper stripping could be optimized while considering the critical variables particularly the effect of H2SO4 concentration and organic/aqueous (O/A) phase ratio. The recyclability of LIX 84-I, which is a critical parameter in order to ensure sustainability of the proposed process is investigated by conducting several cycles of solvoleaching-stripping. A conceptual flow sheet for the metal recycling of WPCBs is thus developed. |
