Abstract Scope |
The NbCoSn-based half-Heusler compound is a promising thermoelectric material candidate due to its outstanding advantages. Recently, tailoring nanostructure via amorphous precursor was introduced and it proved this process can reduce the thermal conductivity greatly, in turn, increase the figure of merit, ZT by reducing thermal conductivity. In this process, nanocrystallization of amorphous NbCo1.1Sn induced by ball milling has been observed. Since the microstructure of ball-milled powder determines the final properties of a sintered bulk specimen, an understanding of the nature of milled feedstock powder must be needed. In this study, we propose the mechanism of crystallization induced by ball milling via atomic-scale compositional characterization, i.e. Atom Probe tomography (APT) and correlative microstructural research. |
