Abstract Scope |
Mining and mineral processing are energy intensive industry which requires access to a stable electricity source. Currently, the electricity generated and procured by mining industry is mostly fossil fuel based either from grid or diesel generators. With rising mineral demand and falling ore grades, electricity demand has been getting even higher, at the same time the industry is facing the pressure of the decarbonization of the world economy to abide by the Paris Agreement to tackle the climate change. In this presentation, an artificial intelligence (AI) enabled electric microgrid comprised of multiple energy sources (solar and wind), will be introduced. Due to the intermittency and variability of renewable energy sources, a diesel generator and a battery based energy storage system (BESS) are also integrated into the microgrid, in order to provide a stable electricity source for mining operation with 24 hours a day and 365 days a year. |
