Abstract Scope |
Polar magnets exhibit a unique combination of electrical polarization and magnetization, making them promising materials for spintronic devices. Development of new polar magnets is a significant challenge due to the incompatibility of ferroelectricity and ferromagnetism. The archetypal perovskite structure is a simple ABO3 type with larger ions occupied in the A-site with 12-fold coordination and smaller ions in the B-site with 6-fold coordination. Under high-pressure conditions however, it is possible to put ions with smaller radii into the A-site which result structural distortion and a decrease in the tolerance factor. Such distorted perovskites can be polar magnets and often exhibit unique properties, such as low-temperature ion exchange, helical magnetic structure, and universal A-site splits. We present a summary of high-pressure LN-type polar magnets. |
