Abstract Scope |
Additive manufacturing (AM) can produce alloys with heterogeneous microstructures due to high heating and cooling during processing. In this presentation, we will discuss the mechanical behavior of an additive Al alloy fabricated by laser powder bed fusion. The AM Al alloy contains heterogeneous microstructures, including microscale and nanoscale intermetallic rosettes. The laminated intermetallic precipitates induce high strength (> 700MPa) and abundant plastic deformability in the Al alloys. Post-deformation TEM analyses reveal intriguing microstructure evolutions and deformation mechanisms in the high-strength Al alloys. This study shows proper usage of heterogeneous microstructures and precipitates may lead to the design of ultrastrong, deformable Al alloys. |
