Abstract Scope |
The effect of time on the morphology and chemistry of nanoparticle ink is not well understood. Silver nanoparticle ink can be used for aerosol printing, an additive manufacturing process where aerosolized droplets of conductive ink are deposited onto a substrate in a designated pattern. Aerosol printing allows for rapid prototyping of microelectronics for applications including flexible implantable circuits for neurostimulation. An aging study was conducted on UT Dots Ag40X silver nanoparticle ink. The ink was analyzed unsintered on a biweekly basis for a total of 10 weeks, then approximately monthly for a total of 30 weeks using a TEM detector on a SEM to determine the effect of time on its particle size distribution. Chemical analysis of the ink was also performed using XPS. Findings can help determine the accuracy of the ink manufacturer shelf life and better understand how ink age may affect aerosol print quality. |
