Abstract Scope |
We demonstrate a new phase-field multiphysics framework to simulate the stress corrosion cracking, implemented in the open-source MOOSE framework. An auxiliary phase field variable is introduced to identify the solid and environment phases, the evolution of which is driven by the total free energy expressed as a function of field variables and their derivations. The electrochemical reactions at the interface produces the Butler-Volmer-type electrochemical kinetics at the limit of sharp-interface. The electrochemical and mechanics modules are loosely coupled, and the effect of loading on corrosion will be considered through film rupture and active dissolution mechanism. We demonstrate the application of this model in the simulation of crack formation from pit in isotropic and anisotropic metals |
