    | Abstract Scope |

Despite the high number of emerging approaches to build components layer-by-layer from powders, additive technologies often use powder alloys designed for other processing routes, which are repurposed, e.g., into a sintering modality. The talk will present a new family of alloys designed to specifically increase the rate and overall degree of sintering densification, and comports with the processing paradigm of solid-state additive manufacturing by green body printing. The powders are designed to pass through a sequence of phase evolutions that rearrange matter at a much faster rate than typical for curvature-driven consolidation in standard alloys.
We will examine the densification characteristics and microstructure evolution of these alloys, and present a theoretical framework to predict the sintering kinetics for a given designed alloy. Finally, the benefits of such alloys for the scale-up and in the production environment are outlined. |
