Abstract Scope |
We developed novel biodegradable drug-eluting implants, including polylatide cage for bone repair, polycaprolactone mesh for therapy of muscle injury and tubular scaffold for treatment of tendon rupture, via melts and solution-extrusion 3D printing technique. The mechanical properties of degradable implants were assessed, and the drug release behaviors of the nanofibers were also characterized. The in vitro release characteristics of pharmaceuticals from the implants were also assessed by an elution method. Various animal models were also employed to determine the in vivo drug/biomolecule release characteristics as well as the efficacies of biodegradable implants. Eventually the biodegradable drug-eluting implants with extended liberation of drug/biomolecules may find various applications in orthopedic surgerysmall joint arthroplasty. |
