Abstract Scope |
The two-point bend method measures failure strains of glass fibers tested under a variety of experimental conditions. This study reports the fabrication and two-point bend failure strain measurements of binary sodium silicate fibers tested in room temperature air with different relative humidities and in room temperature water. Failure strain depends on the water activity and the sensitivity of a glass to fatigue. The speed at which the two-point bend test breaks the fibers is directly related to the average failure strain of the fiber regardless of the water activity. |
