Mitsui Mining & Smelting Co., Ltd was established in 1950, the business is not only non-ferrous metals smelting, but the mining operations at Peru, making of copper foil and automobile door locks etc.
MMS has seven smelters in Japan, each of which has its own characteristics and complements each other to build a smelting network to produce various metals from a variety raw material. The smelting process is varied the ISP and the electrolytic process in zinc smelting, the blast furnace smelting in lead, and the copper flash smelting. The MF process which produces zinc oxide from the EAF dust, and the cyanidation smelting are members of the network.
At ISP the ratio of recycled materials was increased by introducing a hot briquetting plant which treating the oxide materials. At the lead blast furnace, almost all raw materials are recycled materials such as battery scrap and lead residue. |
