Abstract Scope |
This study involves microscopic digital image correlation, with high resolution microtexture measurements in scanning and transmission electron microscopes. The objective is to bring out the formation of new dislocation boundaries and lattice curvatures, during interrupted but controlled tensile deformation. In particular, direct observations are used to establish the role of elastic-plastic strain gradients on the plasticity of both cubic (bcc-iron) and hexagonal (titanium) polycrystalline metallic material. These observations range from slip transfer across grain boundaries, lattice curvatures in the grain interior and formation of non-crystallographic micro-bands. It was shown that the formation of such varied features includes both plastic and elastic strain gradients. |
