Abstract Scope |
When the anode plants start using a wider variety of calcined petroleum cokes in the coke blends there is a need to better understand the impact of different CPC's post-calcination and thermal desulphurization behaviour during baking. For this, the TeqMapping baking level method (Teq=Equivalent Temperature, ISO 17499) is used. The method gives a reliable baking level scale and a series of cupola furnace tests have been run showing good repeatability. The baking furnace temperature can reach high levels and the TeqMapping results are used to evaluate anode-CPC behaviour in this higher risk situations. Such runs are also made preparatory to pilot scale anode tests when the TeqMapping methodology is used to test new CPC qualities. The paper describes how the method was used for CPC characterization including calcination profile, mapping of 20 elements and especially for desulfurization studies. |
