Abstract Scope |
The figure of merit (zT) of thermoelectric materials has been dramatically enhanced with new strategies such as nanostructuring and band engineering over the past few decades. However, efforts to establish thermoelectric power generation still face issues with module fabrication. To develop high-performance and stable modules, it requires not only high zT but also good electrical and thermal contacts between thermoelectric materials and electrodes and mechanically durability. This talk addresses on our recent challenge in bridging the technological chasm between materials development and module fabrication for thermoelectric power generation. A high zT in the materials and corresponding high conversion efficiency in the modules have been demonstrated in nanostructured PbTe, colusites (Cu and S-based), and half Heusler alloy-based thermoelectrics. For all case, the improved electrical and thermal contact resistances between thermoelectric materials and electrodes and the optimized architecture of thermoelectric modules led to high conversion efficiency in the modules. |
