Abstract Scope |
Dwell fatigue in titanium alloys is one of the life-limiting factors in the aircraft engines. The factors such as microstructure and texture amongst others play an important role in dwell fatigue crack nucleation and propagation in these alloys. In this study, a holistic fracture surface analysis in dwell fatigue samples of α/β Ti-6426 alloy is done and correlated with the principal microstructural constituents. Specifically. fracture morphology is investigated for surface and sub-surface crack nucleation locations and correlated with the underlying microstructure with the use of experimental techniques SEM and EBSD. Site-specific TEM samples have been extracted beneath the fracture surface at crack nucleation locations and preliminary deformations substructures analysis has been performed with diffraction contrast techniques in the TEM. |
