Abstract Scope |
Medium-Mn steels with base compositions of Mn of 5 - 10 wt.% and 0.05 - 0.15 wt. % C were fabricated to understand properties of Med-Mn steels for plate gauges. The base alloys were further modified through alloying with additions of Mo, B, V, and Cu. Plates were heat treated at two intercritical annealing temperatures to precipitate and stabilize austenite. The resultant materials were mechanically characterized using tension, hardness, and impact testing. The addition of Mo improved both strength and toughness of the steel; B, V, and Cu alloying showed mixed results. |
