Abstract Scope |
The ornamental stone industry produces a huge amount of waste that is discarded in landfills. The incorporation of these residues into mortars can improve their mechanical performance. The waste can present different characteristics during its collection and preparation, both geometric and morphological. The objective of this work is to evaluate how the granulometry of marble influences the properties in the hardened state of the mortar. Five different granulometries of marble were evaluated as a replacement for sand. Particle size tests, real grain density and chemical analysis were carried out to characterize the materials. Mechanical resistance, water absorption, adhesion and capillarity tests were carried out. The tests evaluated that the larger the granulometry of the marble, the greater the mechanical resistance and the lower the water absorption. |
