Abstract Scope |
For at least 30 years there have been efforts at using full-field microstructure information for predicting materials responses, particularly mechanical responses. For at least two decades, these efforts focused using full-field 3-dimensional information, in large part because of the contributions from Prof. Rollett. Despite these on-going efforts, progress toward implementing these tools into standard engineering workflows remains elusive. The present work examines progress toward constructing SERVES using synthetic microstructure builders of various types, including selected examples from machine-learning or AI tools. Further, the work offers perspectives on the state of experiments for full-field validation of these virtual materials. Finally, open challenges for implementing full-field microstructure information into engineering simulation frameworks are addressed. |
